Raghupati Sahay “Firaq” was born on 28 August 1896. He became popular with his pen name Firaq Gorakhpuri. An eminent writer, critic, and contemporary Urdu poets from India, Firaq was a distinguished poet well-versed in traditional metrical forms such as ghazal, nazm, rubaai and qat\'aa. He is acclaimed for having written over a dozen volumes of Urdu poetry and Urdu prose along with several volumes of literary themes in Hindi, as well as four volumes of English prose on literary and cultural subjects. Some of his major writing work includes Gul-e-Naghma, Gul-e-Ra\'naa, Mash\'aal, Rooh-e-Kaayenaat, Roop (Rubaayi), Shabistaan, Sargam, Bazm-e-Zindagi Rang-e-Shayri, and Urdu Ki Ishqia Shayeri (Urdu Love Poetry).
