Edwin Morgan was a poet and translator and associated with the Scottish Resistance. In 1999, he was the first Glasgow Poet Laureate and in 2004, he was named as the first Scottish national poet - The Scots Makar. Some of his works include Glasgow Sonnets, Instamatic Poems, From Glasgow to Saturn, The Whittrick: a Poem in Eight Dialogues, Essays, Fifty Renascence Love-Poems, Rites of Passage, The New Divan, Scottish Satirical Verse, Grendel, Poems of Thirty Years, The Apple-Tree, Grafts, From the Video Box, Newspoems, Tales from Limerick Zoo, Hold Hands Among the Atoms, Sweeping Out the Dark, Love and a Life, Cathures and Demon among many others.  He was born in Glasgow and was raised in Rutherglen. He attended the University of Glasgow.

Morgan was a recipient of several awards such as PEN Memorial Medal, OBE, Scottish Book of the Year Award, Soros Translation Award, Stakis Prize for Scottish Writer of the Year, Queen\'s Gold Medal for Poetry, Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize, The Saltire Society\'s Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun award, Jackie Forster Memorial Award for Culture, Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature, T. S. Eliot Prize and Scottish Book of the Year Award. He died in 2010.
