Doris Lessing is a British writer and librettist. Dorris Lessing was born in 1919 as Doris May Taylor in former Iran. She grew up in Rhodesia (current Zimbabwe). She attended Dominican Convent High School in Harare (then named Salisbury). She moved to England to pursue her writing. She was barred from entering South Africa and Zimbabwe for her campaign against nuclear arms and South-African Apartheid. Her first novel to be published was The Grass is Singing. Her fiction has been focused on three phrases: the Communist theme, the Psychological theme, and the Sufi theme. She was influenced by the author Idries Shah.
