Chand Bardai was a court poet of the Indian king Prithviraj III Chauhan, who ruled Ajmer and Delhi (1165 – 1192). Chand Bardai composed the epic poem Prithviraj Raso that celebrates the life of Prithviraj. Bardai was a staunch worshiper of Goddess Saraswati, and it is said that he was gifted the boon of Bardai by Her.
The royal poet is said to have mastery of grammar, literature, astrology, prosody and the Puranas. He wrote in Brajbhasa.
Chand Bardai married twice. He had 11 children from two wives Kamla and Gauran.
