Bhawana Somaaya is a journalist, film critic, blogger, author and designer.  She has written nine books in a span of 10 years which include Amitabh Bachchan – The Legend, Salaam Bollywood, Take 25 – Star Insights & Attitudes, The Story So Far, Cinema – Images & Issues, Hema Malini – Authorized Biography, Fragmented Frames, Bachchanalia, Amitabh Laxicon.

She began her career in the late 70s as the Chief Reporter with Free Press Journal\'s film weekly Cinema Journal.  She was then promoted to the designation of a Special Correspondent.

In 2000 she joined as the Editor Chief of Screen magazine, a film weekly managed by The Indian Express Group.

However, her involvement with hindi cinema has not been as a commentator alone. Very critical of the stereotypical costumes of the Hindi film heroines, she took up a challenge from Shabana Azmi and turned designer. In five of her films Bhawana Somaaya did Shabana’s costumes that include Masoom, Kamyaab, Bhavna and Main Azaad Hoon.

She has contributed regular columns to various publications like The Observer, The Afternoon, Janmabhoomi, The Hindu, The Hindustan Times.

She is currently working on some more books.
