Mumbai-born, London based author Atima Srivastava has penned two novels Transmission and Looking for Maya. Both the novels have been texts in the syllabi of several Universities in Britain and other European countries ranging from Poland to Spain.


Atima Srivastava was born in Mumbai in 1961, after which her family shifted base to Britain when she was eight. Since then Atima Srivastava has been living in North London. She is working on a third novel. Many of her short stories have been published in anthologies, like New Writing, Well Sorted and Tran-Lit.


Atima was a film editor for over 13 years and a director. She has also written three screenplays: Dancing in the Dark, The Legendary Vindaloo and Camden Story. Atima Srivastava has bagged the first prize in the Bridport Arts Short Story competition. She also has the experience of teaching Creative Writing after lecturing the world over with the British Council.


Interestingly, Atima Srivastava\'s two works of fiction talk of young Indian women who want more from life. They do not feel uprooted or are not trying to adjust. They just want life, love and success without working too hard.


In an interview Atima Srivastava had said, "My situation is different, although I came to England at the age of eight. My \'India\', if you like, came from my parents\' very present idea of India, which involved speaking Hindi, having visitors from India over etc. - very little assimilation - and also from my very frequent trips back. .. I have always felt myself to be Indian and a Londoner, never British, never English. My most potent image of myself is that I always have the feeling that I am from here and also from there..."
