Art Buchwald was an American humorist and writer. Art Buchwald was born on October 20, 1925 in New York. He was born to a couple with Austrian-Hungarian Jewish origin. He was sent for adoption to the Hebrew Orphan Asylum. Although he was reunited with his father and siblings, he ran away from home and served in the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing during the Second World War. He was discharged as a Sergeant. He attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was the editor of the campus magazine, Wampus. After university, he moved to Paris. He worked as a correspondent for Variety and then for The New York Herald Tribune. He returned to the States and contributed to Marvel Comics\' Crazy Magazine. He married Ann McGarry; together they adopted three children and settled in Washington while spending their summers in Vineyard Haven.
