Albert Camus was a French Pied Noir writer, journalist, and philosopher from former French-occupied Algeria. Some of his most-famous novels are The Stranger, The Plague, The Fall, A Happy Death, and The First Man. His non-fiction works are Christian Metaphysics and Neoplatonism, Betwixt and Between, Nuptials, The Myth of Sisyphus, The Rebel, Notebooks 1935–1942, Notebooks 1943–1951, and Notebooks 1951–1959. His short-stories are The Adulterous Woman, The Renegade or a Confused Spirit, The Silent Men, The Guest, Jonas or the Artist at Work, and The Growing Stone. He was born in 1913 in Drean in former French-occupied Algeria. He attended the University of Algiers.

Camus is synonymous with his idea of the absurd. He worked with the UNESCO and was a strong advocate of human rights. He died in 1960.
