Agyeya was born as Sachchidananda Hirananda Vatsyayana on March 7, 1911 at Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh. He did his Intermediate studies from Madras Christian College in 1927, and completed his B.Sc. (Industrial Science) in 1929 from Forman Christian College in Lahore. His writing name Ajneya became very popular with his readers. His unique writing was a pioneering style of contemporary trends in Hindi poetry, fiction, criticism and journalism. A revolutionary freedom fighter, his classic novel-trilogy Shekhar: Ek Jivani was a product of prison days. He was one of exponents of the Nayi Kavita (New Poetry) and Prayog (Experiments) in Modern Hindi literature, and also edited literary magazines.
