Suman Kalyanpuri is famous Indian playback singer who was very popular from the 1950s to the 80s. Suman was discovered by Talat Mehmood who heard her performing at a concert. Soon after, he recommended her to HMV. Suman Kalyanpuri made her debut as a playback singer with the song, Koi Pukare Dheere Se Tujhe for the film Mangu(1954). Since then she has sung with the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Mukesh and Hemant Kumar.
Some of her famous tracks are Na Tum Hamen Jano (Bat Ek Raat Ki), Mere Sang Ga (Janwaar), Sharabi Sharabi (Noor Jehan) and Yun Hi Dil Ne Chaha Tha (Dil Hi Toh Hai) amongst others. Other than Hindi, Suman has sung in several languages like Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Bengali, Oriya and Punjabi. Her recordings include devotional songs, ghazals and Thumris. She is also a proud recipient of the prestigious Sur Singar Samsad Award.
