Dev Kohli is a reputed Indian poet and lyricist. He began writing at a very young age but did not publicize his talent because of the fear of being ridiculed. His mentor and confidante, Mr. Shaukat Ali inspired him to show his writings to others. Dev came to Mumbai in the 1960s and stayed at a hotel. It is here that he met famous composer duo Shakar-Jaikishen’s secretary. His film lyrics were instantly accepted and made into a song - Geet Gata Hoon Main. Though the song went on to become a major hit, Dev Kohli received minimal recognition for his work.

As he always refused to hire a PR agent, he received recognition for his works for the first time only after 20 years for the movie, Maine Pyar Kiya. Dev Kohli prefers to work on one project at a time instead of writing tracks for many movies at once. Some of his other famous lyrics can be found in tracks of Baazigar, Judwaa, Biwi No. 1 and Kaante.
