Tishani Doshi is an Indian author, poetess, and dancer. Her works include Countries of the Body, The Day We Went to the Sea, The Pleasure Seekers, and Everything Begins Elsewhere. Born to Welsh-Gujarati parents in Madras, she attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina to study Business Administration. She completed a Masters in The Writing Seminars from John Hopkins University in Baltimore. She began her career with Harper’s & Queen Magazine at London. She returned to India in 2001 to become a scuba diving instructor; however a meeting with renowned Indian choreographer, Chandralekha Prabhudas Patel led her to become a dancer. Today she performs as the lead dancer in Chandralekha’s group. She also writes a column for the New Indian Express – Notes from Nowhere. She also writes for the Guardian, Corriere della Sera, the New York Times, the Hindu, the National, India Today, Outlook, Tricycle, Vogue, and Elle. She is a member of the panel of judges for the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize 2012 along with writer and journalist Basharat Peer.
