Sir James Cochran Stevenson Runciman popularly known as Steven Runciman was known for his research and writings on the Middle Ages. Sir Runciman was born in July, Northumberland, U.K. Both his parents were Members of Parliament for the Liberal Party: Walter Runciman, 1st Viscount Runciman of Doxford, and Hilda Runciman, Viscountess Runciman of Doxford. He attended Eton College where he became close friends with George Orwell. Aldous Huxley taught them at Eton. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge where JB Bury taught him. Later he became a Professor at the University of Istanbul teaching Byzantine Art and History.
