Shrabani Basu is an Indian journalist cum author who has penned three novels – Spy Princess, Curry, Victoria & Abdul. Shrabani’s books have always amalgamated her journalistic skills and her love of history and all her works have evolved from what she observed and gathered about the shared histories of India and Britain.

Shrabani Basu was born in Calcutta and grew up in cities like Dhaka, Kathmandu and Delhi. She studied History from St Stephen’s College, Delhi and completed her Masters from Delhi University (DU). In 1983, she started working as a trainee journalist in The Times of India (Bombay) and then took up a job as a Correspondent of Ananda Bazar Patrika and The Telegraph, both popular newspapers in Calcutta. Over her long and fulfilling journalistic career she got the opportunity to do exclusive interviews with many distinguished people including Benazir Bhutto, Sheikh Hasina, Salman Rushdie, Nirad C Chaudhuri, Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Ismail Merchant, Mira Nair and Shabana Azmi among many others. She then moved to London in 1987.

Shrabani Basu has been invited to speak at several literary festivals including the Cheltenham Literature Festival, Bath Literature Festival, Words by the Water, Keswick, Cambridge History Festival and the Jaipur Literature festival.
