Shaani Mootoo is the author of Out on Main Street, Cereus Blooms at Night, The Predicament of or, He Drown She in the Sea, and Valmiki\'s Daughter. She is an accomplished writer, visual artist and video maker. She was born in Dublin in Ireland into a family that has its origin in Trinidad. At the age of 24, she moved to Vancouver in British Columbia in Canada. She lives in Toronto in Canada at the moment. She has worked as a writer in Residence at the University of Alberta, the University of Guelph, and the University of the West Indies, and as a Visiting Scholar at Mills College in California, USA.
Shani Mootoo earned a Fine Arts BFA Degree at the University of Western Ontario and an MA in English and Theatre from the University of Guelph. She has written, directed, and filmed videos such as View, Guerita and Prietita, Her Sweetness Lingers, The Wild Woman in the Woods, A Paddle and a Compass, English Lesson, and Lest I Burn. Her works explore gender, love, and sexuality.
