Saul Bellow was a Canadian-born American writer. His novels and novellas included Dangling Man, The Victim, The Adventures of Augie March, Seize the Day, Henderson the Rain King, Herzog, Mr. Sammler\'s Planet, Humboldt\'s Gift, The Dean\'s December, More Die of Heartbreak, A Theft, The Bellarosa Connection, The Actual, and Ravelstein. His short story collections include Mosby\'s Memoirs, Him with His Foot in His Mouth, Something to Remember Me By: Three Tales, and Collected Stories. His non-fiction writings include To Jerusalem and Back, It All Adds Up, and Saul Bellow: Letters.

Saul Bellow was born as Solomon Bellow in Lachine, Quebec. He grew up in Chicago and attended the University of Chicago. Later he moved to Northwestern University and studied Anthropology and Sociology. During the Second World War, he joined the merchant marine. Later he taught at the University of Minnesota. He earned a Guggenheim Fellowship and went to stay in Paris where he wrote The Adventures of Augie March. Later he taught Creative Writing at the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras. One of his students was William Kennedy.

Saul Bellow returned to New York City and then he moved Chicago where he served on the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago.
