Romila Thapar is an Indian historian and professor. Thapar was born in Lucknow. She attended Punjab University where she completed her graduation. She moved to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London, from where she completed her doctorate. She has been a visiting professor at Cornell University, the University of Pennsylvania and the College de France in Paris. She is an honorary fellow at Lady Margaret Hall at Oxford and SOAS. She has received honorary doctorates from the University of Chicago, the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales in Paris, the University of Oxford, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Calcutta and the University of Hyderabad.
