Prem Nath Dar was a short story writer from the Kashmir Valley. His short stories are remembered as progressive writings.
In the later stages of his life, he began to write short stories along with being involved with Kashmiri cultural and social activities.
To make his characters alive and real he sought help from his wife with respect to spoken phrases and terminologies commonly used in Delhi city. This helped him in creating a wide array of characters at various levels of social system.
His writings were majorly influenced by the Marxist writings. The social structure of India also played a crucial role in shaping his writing style. His association with the then progressive writers encouraged him to impart strong messages of social reforms.
His short stories spoke about the harsh realities of social life in Kashmir and Delhi. His first collection of short stories was titled Kagaz Ka Vasudev. His second collection of stories was published in 1960s titled Neeli Aankhen.
