Osamu Tezuka is rightly called the \'father of manga\'.A prolific genius, Tezuka worked on more than 700 manga books,the total volume would be appropriately over 1,50,000 pages.Tezuka was thus a Japanese animator, cartoonist, activist and lastly a medical doctor, who, dear manga fans, never practiced medicine.
At a time when manga was not particularly a financiallly rewarding job, Tezuka was at the crossroads. He was unsure whether to avail the benefits of his recently acquired medical degree. That was when his mother told Tezuka that he should be doing what he really wanted to do.
The now ubiquitous large eye features of comic characters was Tezuka\'s invention. The inspiration for Walt Disney\'s 1995 movie The Lion King was the artist\'s character Kimba. Tezuka\'s other famous works include his epic Buddha series, Astro Boy and several landmark manga novels.
By the way, we, the limited readers of (only) the English language, have to wait for Tezuka\'s complete works, for most of it is yet to be translated from the Japanese.
