Oakley Maxwell Hall was an American novelist. His novels include Ambrose Bierce and the Queen of Spades, Ambrose Bierce and the Death of Kings, Ambrose Bierce and the One-Eyed Jacks, Ambrose Bierce and the Trey of Pearls, Ambrose Bierce and the Ace of Shoots, Warlock, The Bad Lands, Apaches, Murder City, So Many Doors, Corpus of Joe Bailey, Mardios Beach, The Pleasure Garden, The Downhill Racers, A Game for Eagles, The Adelita, Lullaby, The Children of the Sun, The Coming of the Kid, Separations, and Love and War in California. His non-fiction works include The Art and Craft of Novel Writing and How Fiction Works.
Oakley Hall was born in 1920 in San Diego in California. He attended the University of California, Berkley and the University of Iowa. He received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Iowa. He served as a marine during the Second World War. His books carry the theme of the historical American West. He taught at the University of California. He was the father of playwright Oakley Hall III and writer, actor, and director, Sands Hall.
