Kuldip Nayar is a seasoned Indian journalist, columnist, human rights activist and author. He was also nominated as a Member of Rajya Sabha in 1997.
Nayar was born to a Sikh family at Sialkot, Punjab. He did his B.A. (Hons.) and then did LLB from the Law College Lahore. He also went about studying journalism from the Medill School of Journalism on a scholarship.
Nayar is also a peace activist and was a member of India\'s delegation to the UN in 1996.
He writes columns and op-eds for over 80 newspapers in 14 languages that include The Daily Star, The Sunday Guardian, The News (Pakistan), Express Tribune (Pakistan) and Dawn (Pakistan).
Nayar has been working relentlessly to free Indian prisoners in Pakistan and Pakistani prisoners in India, who despite completing their sentences have not been set free.
Nayar has authored 15 books that include Beyond the Lines (autobiography), Distant Neighbours: A Tale of the Subcontinent, India after Nehru and The Martyr.
