Dattatreya Balkrushna Kalelkar was popularly known as Kaka Kalelkar. He was a man who donned several hats: writer, educationist, journalist, scholar, social reformer, and historian. He was a patriot and was a member of Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. He was also instrumental in founding the Gujarat Vidyapith at Ahmedabad and was also the Vice Chancellor.
Kalelkar was born in 1885 in Belgundi Village in Belgaum District of Karnataka. He studied at Fergusson College. He traveled across India and began to write travelogues in Gujarati, Marathi, and Hindi. Some of his most popular writings are Quintessence of Gandhian Thought, Profiles in Inspiration, Stray Glimpses of Bapu, Mahatma Gandhi\'s Gospel of Swadeshi, Himalayatil Pravas, Jivata Tehvar, Mara Sansmarano, Ugamano Desh, and Uttarekadil Bhinti.
