Jasper Fforde was born in London. His father was John Standish Fforde who was a Chief Cashier for the Bank of England (his signature existed on the sterling banknotes during his tenure). Author Katie Fforde’s husband, Desmond Fforde and Jasper Fforde are cousins. He is the grandson of Joseph Retinger who was one of the individuals whose efforts led to the formation of the European Union. He is also a great grandson of E.D Morel, British journalist and socialist politician who led a campaign against slavery in the former Congo Free State.
Jasper Fforde studied at the famous progressive Dartington Hall School and began his career as a focus puller. His first novel is the The Eyre Affair. He is famous for his character, Thursday Next and his use of parody and fantasy. His most famous works are Nursery Crime Series, The Last Dragonslayer, and Shades of Gray.
