James Kelman is a British novelist, short-story writer, essayist, and playwright. Some of his novels include The Busconductor Hines; A Chancer, A Disaffection; How Late It Was, How Late; Translated Accounts; You Have to Be Careful in the Land of The Free; Kieron Smith, Boy; and Mo Said She Was Quirky. His short stories An Old Pub near the Angel, Not Not While the Giro, Lean Tales (with Alasdair Gray and Agnes Owens), Greyhound for Breakfast, The Burn, The Good Times, Remember Young Cecil, and If It Is Your Life. Some of his other writings are Some Recent Attacks: Essays Cultural & Political and The Judges Said.
Kelman was born in Glasgow in Scotland. He has lived in London, Manchester, the Channel Islands, Australia and a host of other places. Today he lives in Glasgow with his wife and children. He has been a recipient of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction, Booker Prize, Scotland on Sunday Award, Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award, and Saltire Society\'s Book of the Year Award.
