Jagan Nath Azad was born on December 5, 1918 in the small town of Isa Khel in Mianwali District, Punjab, India. He completed his schooling from Raja Ram Mohan Rai High School (Mianwali) in 1933 and joined the Dayanand Anglo-Vedic (DAV) College in Rawalpindi to obtain a FA degree in 1934 and achieved his MA degree from Gordon College (Rawalpindi). He was known as an acclaimed authority on the life, philosophy & works of Dr Sir Allama Mohammad Iqbal. Azad penned over 70 books, including poetry collections, epic poems, biographies and travelogues. Some of his collections of Poems (Nazm, Ghazal, Rubai & Qatah) include Tabl-o-Alam, Bekaran, Sitaron Se Zarron Tak, Nawa-e-Pareeshan, Justaju; while his paperback poems include Urdu, Abul Kalam Azad, Dehli Ki Jama Masjid, Maatam-e-Salik and Iqbal Aur Us Ka Ehad. Some of his other work includes Iqbal Aur Maghribi Mufakkireen, Iqbal Aur Kashmir, Iqbal Ki Kahani, Muraqqa-e-Iqbal, Iqbal: Mind & Art, Hindustan Mein Iqbaliat, Tarjuma-e-Javed Nama, Mere Guzashta Roz-o-Shab, Junoobi Hind Mein Do Hafte, Mashraqi Pakistan Mein Chand Roz, Pushkin Ke Des Mein, Phir America Aur Canada Mein, Aankhen Tarastian Hain, Fiqr-o-Fan, Kuchh Josh Maliahbadi Ke Baare Mein, Stray Thoughts on Urdu Literature and more.
