Jackie Kay is a Scottish poet and writer. Her works include The Adoption Papers, Other Lovers, Off Colour, Trumpet, The Frog who dreamed she was an Opera Singer, Two’s Company, Why Don\'t You Stop Talking, Strawgirl, Life Mask, Wish I were Here, The Lamplighter, Red Cherry Red, Darling, Maw Broon Monologues, Red Dust Road, Fiere, Brendon Gallacher, Lucozade, Yellow, and Reality, Reality.
Jackie Kay was born in Edinburgh to a Scottish mother and Nigerian father. She attended the University of Stirling where she studied English. She currently teaches Creative Writing at the University of Newcastle.
Kay has received several accolades awards such as the Saltire Society Scottish First Book Award, Somerset Maugham Award, and Guardian First Book Award. In 2006, she was made Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
