Ibn-e-Insha was born Sher Muhammad Khan on June 15, 1927 in Phillaur of Jalandhar District, Punjab in India. He received his B.A. degree from Punjab University in 1946 and pursued M.A. from the University of Karachi in 1953. Ibn-e-Insha was a popular poet, columnist, humorist and travelogue writer. His writing has been reminiscent of Amir Khusro in terms of words and construction and his use of Hindi-Urdu in language complexity. He has written several books of travelogues with a touch of humour. His work also includes translation of a collection of Chinese poems in Urdu in 1960. One of his famous hazals Insha Ji Utthoo won him acclaim as an influential classic hazals. His work includes poetry like Is Basti Key Ik Koochey Main, Chand Nagar and Dil-e-Wehshi. His other work includes Awara Gard Ki Diary, Dunya Gol Hey, Ibn Battuta Kay Taqub, Chaltay Ho To Cheen Ko Chaliye, Nagri Nagri Phira Musafar, Khumar e Gandum, Urdu Ki Aakhri Kitaab and Khat Insha Jee Kay (Collection of letters).
