Hem Barua was a famous Assamese writer, poet, and politician. His writings are Adhunik Sahitya, Sagar Dekhicha?, Balichanda, San Mihali, Cupid Aru Psyche, Ranga Karabir Phul, Kannaki, Ei Git, Idle Hours, Assamese Literature, Sahitya Aru Sahitya, Achuphul, Man Mayuri, Bahagate Pati Jaon Biya, Bahagate Pati Jaon Biya, Smritir Papari, Talxora, Dak Pokhili, Mekong Noi Dekhilu, and The Red River & the Blue Hill.
Hem Barua was born in 1915 in Tezpur, Assam. He studied at Calcutta University and taught English and Assamese at a college in Jorhat, Assam. Later he founded the B. Barua College, Guwahati and became principal. He was President of the Assam Sahitya Sabha. Later he became a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) till 1970.
