Nelle Harper E. Lee, better known as Harper Lee is an American writer who is famous for her book titled To kill a Mockingbird. Her other writings include, Love — In Other Words, Christmas to Me, Romance and High Adventure, Open Letter to Oprah Winfrey, and When Children Discover America. She was born on April 28 in 1926. She grew up in Monroeville, Alabama. Her father was Amasa Coleman Lee. He worked with the Alabama State Legislature and he was also an editor. Her mother was Frances Cunningham Finch who was a homemaker.
Lee attended Monroe County High School, Huntingdon College in Montgomery, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and the Oxford University. She moved to New York to become a writer. She was interested in literature right from an early age. She was friends with the famous writer, Truman Capote. He was the inspiration behind the character of Dill in her most famous book titled To kill a Mockingbird while she was a character in Capote’s first book titled Other Voices, Other Rooms.
In 1966, American President Harper Lee appointed her to the National Council on the Arts.
