Harcharan Dass Chawla was born on November 4, 1926 in Mianwali (present day Pakistan). The event of partition inspired the novel Darinday, leaving a lasting impression on his readers. He wrote over 450 short stories in Urdu and three novels. He created a literary bridge between India and Norway by translating Norwegian stories into Urdu and Hindi. He also translated Indian stories into Norwegian in a book titled \'India forteller\' published by the Writers academy of Norway. He also translated Knut Thomsons\' Norwegian novel \'Victoria\'. Some of his work includes Norway Ke Behtreen Afsaney, Anguish of a Horse, Dil, Dimagh aur Duniya, India Foreteller, Bhatke Hue Log, Dhoop Ek Chadar, Dhoop Ek Chadar, Aks Aaine Ke, Chiragh Ke Zakhm, Aate Jaate Mausmon Ka Sach, Album Yadon Ki, Album Yadon Ki, Bhatke Hue Log, Fan or Shakhsiyat and Adrift (English).
