Dora Marsden was a British women’s suffrage activist, editor and writer. Her works include The Definition of the Godhead and Mysteries of Christianity. She was born in Marsden in Yorkshire in England. She and her family experienced extreme poverty after her father left them to move to the States. She became a tutor when she was thirteen. She attended the former Owens College in Manchester (presently known as the University of Manchester). She became involved in women’s suffrage as a student. At the age of twenty one, she became the principal of a Teacher Training Center.
Marsden later joined the Women\'s Social and Political Union (WSPU). She also worked as an editor for three journals such as The Freewoman, The New Freewoman and The Egoist. Her contribution to these publications has been cited as her most successful body of work.
Marsden died in 1960 in Dumfries in Scotland.
