Colin Fletcher was an English writer and backpacker. His books include The Thousand Mile Summer, The Man Who Walked through Time, The Complete Walker, The Winds of Mara, The Man from the Cave, Secret Worlds of Colin Fletcher and River: One Man\'s Journey down the Colorado, Source to Sea. He was born on March 14, 1922 in Cardiff in Wales in the U.K. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Marine Commandos. He married Sonia Mary Ash and they moved to Kenya.
In Kenya, Fletcher and his wife ran a hotel. After they separated, he moved to the U.S. This is when he wrote his first book after having walked across California: The Thousand Mile Summer. Other books followed. He was vocal about environmental concerns.
Fletcher died in 2007.
