Adithi Rao studied at Smith College, USA, and procured a degree in Theatre, and came back to India when she got a chance to work as an assistant director on the famed Bollywood movie Satya. She then began writing on a travel channel of Indya.com. Adithi likes penning books for children and adults alike. Her short stories have been included in various anthology collections. Shakuntala & Other Stories was first published by Puffin India in 2007 and Growing Up in Pandupur that was released recently is her second book.
About Growing Up in Pandupur
Pandupur is a fictitious village in South India. The book opens with a map of Pandupur (located near the River Dhun) followed by Dhun’s Song –a creative dedication to the river. The book through interesting short stories spells out important life-lessons in growing: insecurities, acts of kindness, friendship, mirth, mischief. The collection has stories that are sure to echo in the hearts and minds of children.
From sibling love and rivalry, to the loss of a dear family member, to child sexual abuse, to growing up – all the topics in the collection cater to topics a child can relate to.
About Shakuntala And Other Stories From Ancient India
The book is a beautiful compilation of stories on love and bravery, treachery and injustice, from ancient Indian literature. For instance, the one on Shakuntala talks of a heartrending story of the love between the beautiful Shakuntala and King Dushyanta; The Story of an Anklet talks about Kannagi, who wreaks a terrible revenge for the wrong done to her; Manimekalai, is the extraordinary account of a woman’s search for her true calling.
Along with these two books, Adithi Rao has also contributed stories in anthologies titled Mango Tree in the Desert, Dosa Conspiracy, Sereng Yeti, A Tryst With Fate, Hide-and-Seek, Turban for a Little Boy - A Clear Blue Sky, Sweets for Shankar - Eid Stories.
