Shweta Subram is a vocalist and songwriter with extensive training in the Hindustani and Carnatic music styles. The local press has touted her to be the Sunidhi Chauhan of Canada owing to her power-packed performances, stage presence, and sell-out audiences.
Shweta has performed on over 50 cities across Canada, the Caribbean, India, UAE, and USA. She was featured alongside Salim-Sulaiman at the 2011 IIFA Awards, and has opened for Alka Yagnik, Atif Aslam, Shafqat Amanat Ali, and Sukhbir. Shweta's original singles, Jee Le Live Life and Ajooba have received tremendous responses and her single with Shankar Tucker, Mere Saajan Sun Sun, has been a rage worldwide.
Shweta has also sung as a playback singer for a Canadian documentary, Bas! Beyond the Red Light, and a North American production, It's A Mismatch (music by JoSH; starring Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, and Nandana Sen).
Shweta Subram was born in Dubai and spent her childhood and early teenage years there. She finished her high school and obtained her university degree in Ottawa, Canada. Following this, Shweta competed for the title of Best Singer in North America by Sangam Kala Group (the same organization which discovered Anand Raj Anand, Sonu Niigaam, and Sunidhi Chauhan). After winning the title, Shweta was flown to India where she placed in the top 10 against the Indian contestants.
Once in India, Shweta was picked by Star Plus Voice of India. After an episode, Shweta was approached to form a girl-band for Zoom TV, called the Sunsilk Gang of Girls. The band was aired on Zoom TV for 13-weeks, following which it toured various cities in India. While in India, Shweta was also featured on B4U, NDTV Goodtimes, and Sahara One. During her stay in India, Shweta obtained Hindustani classical training under the guidance of Padma Wadkar (Suresh Wadkar's wife) and Sunil Borgaonkar.
After her stint in India, Shweta returned to Canada and released her singles, Jee Le Live Life and Ajooba. When IIFA came to Toronto, she was picked up by Salim-Sulaiman to feature with them at the IIFA Awards. She was also approached by Shankar Tucker to feature in his original composition, Mere Saajan Sun Sun, and other tracks. Shweta has also lent her voice to other productions.
