Born in the musical city of Gwalior, in a family where music is much esteemed, Shantanu grew up listening to Hindustani Classical music, Legendry bollywood music, Ghazals and ofcourse, Kishore da. His singing started like any other kid in a middle class family with a little musical aptitude. He started learning guitar at the age of 15 and all other interests faded out.
“When I got to touch the guitar for the first time…I was hypnotized. AND THEN I STRUCK THE FIRST STRING… I was alive”.
Shantanu took all the formal music training, which includes his music diplomas and A.T.C.L., under his teacher Mr Ramswamy Ramchandran. However, he received his first guitar lessons from Mr. Anusheel Jauhari in Gwalior.
“My teachers made it easy for me by giving me a really tough time while training.”
He tasted FAME FOR THE FIRST TIME through Indian Idol 3. Not only it was fun but also a learning experience. But yet the real self was to be found. He continued studying music rather than trying to cash on the success. The next reality show happened a couple of years later - Sitaaron ko chhoona hai. This time he made it till finals. Right after that show, he landed totally into songwriting and composing.
“I find nothing in this world more interesting then sitting alone and FIDDLING WITH MY GUITAR. Music, for me, is manifestation of the feelings I have that very second while playing or singing or writing.”
Giants of literature like Harishankar Parsai, Oscar Wilde, Dharamveer Bharti, Munshi Premchand, Manto etc are his inspirations when it comes to songwriting. The musicians those inspires him the most are Andres Segovia, Jimi Hendrix, Pt. Jasraj, Hemant Kumar, S.D. Burman, John Mayer and many more.
