Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Biography of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan : They say music has no boundaries. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan epitomized this quote in its truest sense. He was a Pakistani musician, mainly a singer of Qawwali and devotional Sufism. Nusrat was born to a famous Qawwal and it is said that Qawwali was an inherited gift and his family had been passing down the legacy for over 600 years. His father wanted him to not follow this profession, but Nusrat had a passion for singing since childhood. His Qawwal team was made of 11 members, each playing a different instrument. It included his cousins, nephews and many others. He made his first performance at his father's funeral. His first public performance came with Radio Pakistan's music festival broadcast. He soon gained popularity in the Indian sub-continent. Soon he was signed by a UK agency and started performing in concerts. His voice reached western shores after his collaboration with Pearl Jam's lead singer Eddie Vedder for Dead Man Walking's soundtrack. Soon gaining popularity, he went on to collaborate with the likes of Peter Gabriel and Jonathan Elias. He went on to contribute to soundtracks of many Hollywood movies. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sang for two Bollywood films Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya and Kachche Dhaage before his death at the age of 48. Eddie Vedder said,"Nusrat is my Elvis." Red Hot Chilli Peppers wrote a song in his memory but the song was never released. Artists all over the world mourned his death.
