At fifteen, she made a sensational debut by playing the title role in Raj Kapoor's super hit movie 'Bobby' and went on to become the teen idol of the nation. Despite delivering a huge hit and being acknowledged by everyone in the industry, Dimple decided to quit Bollywood and settle down with her newly married life with superstar Rajesh Khanna. Unfortunately her married life was not so smooth and life came falling apart for her with a divorce. She returned to the silver screen after thirteen long years with N. N. Sippy's 'Saagar' starring opposite her previous hero Rishi Kapoor and Kamal Hassan. Her spectacular performance won her the Best Actress Award. Later she focused doing parallel cinema and gave commendable performances in films like 'Kaash', 'Prahaar', 'Lekin', and 'Rudaali'. 'Rudaali' even won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Dimple didn't limit herself to art cinema and continued doing commercial movies like 'Manzil Manzil' with Sunny Deol, 'Ajooba' with Amitabh Bachchan, and 'Ram Lakhan' and 'Gardish' with Jackie Shroff. In 2006, Dimple did 'Being Cyrus' and thus acted in her first English language movie. It has been a long career for Dimple but even today few can come close to Dimple's gorgeous looks and appeal.
