Dheem Tharikita - the Cricket Underground Anthem by BlaaZe & Paul J - their Victory Chant for the Chennai Super Kings.

 1. When did you decide to do this and how long did it take for you and Paul to put this together?
BLAAZE: A friend of mine, Murali in Singapore, gave me the idea to do the song, saying, 'we all come to chennai to see the matches - we need a chant - will you make one?' So, i recorded an idea and sent it to my brother, paul jacob, and he came up with a great thought on how powerful Bharathiyar's Victory Chants are - and so - Dheem Tharikita was born.

PAUL J: I never miss an opportunity to work with the man Mr. BlaaZe, as he is probably the one artist in this country with a consciousness to his music. There are also folk drummers from Thanjavur and Madurai on the track so this also a Chant that works for all - young, old, urban, rural, Tamil and English. Took us a couple of days to put it together.
 
 
2. What plans do you have for this anthem? Any concerts in the stadium? Are you going to be watching the matches in the stadium?
BLAAZE: The plan is to spread the song and the reward would be to hear the fans chanting for Victory in Bharathiyar Style! Dheem Tharikita...

PAUL J: Surely it would be great to perform at the stadium with some of the folk artists, we are going to do our very best to make that happen and yes definitely going to watch the matches at the stadium.


3. How is your pet project on Thirukkural going and any reasons for borrowing from Bharathi?
BLAAZE: The first song, Kural, released alongwith AR Rahman's Biography Book, and so that is a project to look forward to.
Bharathiyar, Thiruvalluvar, all have such great writings and thoughts, that we would like to consciously keep alive, through whichever way we know best.
 
PAUL J: The idea to put a bit of Bharathiyar into the song is to bring out the fact that Tamil literature and culture has so much more to offer, and who better than BlaaZe to take this to the next generation. I think the more we dig into our own traditions the more we understand ourselves.


4. What was/is your reaction to the official anthem when you heard it? Do you think it's time for a change or are you happy with the unofficial underground status?
BLAAZE: Music is great, especially when played aloud to a game. We wanted to have fun and Dheem Tharikita is the outcome of that. It's the fans' anthem. It's also our way of giving back to a team that has given us so much, and to Dhoni, a true leader.

PAUL J: This should be left to the team and the fans to decide, off course it would be great to have the official status but as we have been unofficial and underground all our lives we are happy with either as long as people get to hear it, enjoy it and sing it.


5. Are you and Paul working on something together apart from this?
BLAAZE: Yes. We keep jamming and ideas are born everyday. So, Godwilling, something soon.

PAUL J: Yes any excuse is good enough to work with BlaaZe as I said before he's the only artist in this country with courage to address real issues.


6. Do either of you play cricket? Have you both always supported CSK?
BLAAZE: Always CSK! And i never had the privilege to play cricket a lot, but as a fan, i think they keep the chennai spirit victorious.

PAUL J: Played a lot in school and yes CSK is the team I've always rooted for.
 


7. What does CSK have that other teams don't?
BLAAZE:The Cup !! - And they bringin' it back home ..again

PAUL J: And Dhoni ! he is one person who has seriously brought a sense of pride to every Indian.of the famous Star One show Remix.
