Albatross was born to fuse spine chilling stories with bone crushing metal. It started out as the solo project of bassist Riju Dasgupta in the year 2007, when he decided to marry his love of literature with his love of metal. Heavily influenced by the genre of horror concept albums they decided to turn the studio project into a complete band.
In 2008, with Biprorshee Das in tow, Riju roped in guitarist Rajarshi Bhattacharyya as both guitarist and producer for their upcoming debut EP 'Dinner is You'. Hailing from a more modern school of thought, Rajarshi was the perfect antithesis to Riju's song writing style. Jay Thacker came next on drums and so did Jimmy Alexander on guitars.
Dinner is You was a concept EP about the Kuru disease – a grisly tale of a laughing disease which afflicts cannibals. And as icing on the cake, the band roped in acclaimed Swedish producer Andy LaRocque to master the CD, making it a monumental collaboration in the Indian metal scene. Unfortunately guitarist Jimmy Alexander could not continue in the band and was replaced by whiz kid Mrudul Kamble, who will be part of the band's live lineup.
In June 2010 the band signed to Demonstealer Records to release their debut EP Dinner Is You.
They say fear is the most primal and basic human instinct. And Albatross is here to scare you. We could be in your closet as you're reading this, with a knife, dripping blood.
